{"id":5062,"date":"2024-05-16T13:50:47","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T10:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadaii.com\/?p=5062"},"modified":"2024-05-16T13:50:47","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T10:20:47","slug":"how-do-i-check-the-status-of-my-ircc-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadaii.com\/en\/how-do-i-check-the-status-of-my-ircc-application\/","title":{"rendered":"How do I check the status of my IRCC application?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Being up to date on the status of an application is often a primary consideration for newcomers who have applied to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/ircc.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada<\/a>\u00a0(IRCC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although most immigration candidates and applicants will be able to get an abridged application update from their secure IRCC account (or relevant application portal), there are other options available to newcomers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How can I check the status of my application?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Outside of status updates given through IRCC application portals, and contacting IRCC directly via phone, webform or email (which are more appropriate for general queries), applicants can now use the Application Status Tracker (AST) tool*.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This tool has been designed by IRCC to give applicants (clients) in-depth and up to date information on their specific applications. The service is available to newcomers who have applied to IRCC for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Express Entry;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Study permits;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Work permits;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sponsorship of a spouse, partner, or dependent child; and\/or<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Visitor visas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In addition to the Application Status Tracker tool, applicants can also order\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/gcms-notes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Case Management System<\/a>\u00a0(GCMS) notes, which allow applicants to access a \u201cbehind-the-scenes&#8221; look at their application, including any additional information gathered by the government, when the application was last opened, and how the supervising officer for the application is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While much of this information is relevant to applicants waiting on their applications, it does not provide the most in-depth information on application processing specifically. For this reason, the article will continue to focus on the AST tool. While both are operational, the Client Application Status site provides information for many applications that are not included in the AST tool (<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-citizenship-immigration-and-settlement-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">citizenship<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-residency-obligations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">permanent residence<\/a>\u00a0(PR),\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-permanent-resident-card.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PR Card<\/a>, etc.).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What information is included in the AST tool?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the AST tool, applicants can find:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Their overall application status (Received, In Progress, or Closed);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Application details (including eligibility check, medical exam (if needed), background verification, and biometrics (if needed));<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Contact details;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Status of documents (including\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/copr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmation of permanent residence<\/a>\u00a0(COPR),\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-temporary-resident-visa-visitor.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visitor visas<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-temporary-study-visa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study permits<\/a>, and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/working-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work permits<\/a>\u00a0(among others)); and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next steps (when and if relevant) for applicants.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When can I start to check my application status?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before newcomers can begin to check their application status using the tool, five things need to happen:<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"cicnewsads-8fc645ab77c288345707dcf4200995d4\" class=\"cicnewsads-8fc645ab77c288345707dcf4200995d4 cicnewsads-in-article-1\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<div id=\"cicnewsads-1373149332\" class=\"cicnewsads-in-article-1\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-3506545305994-0\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The application must be submitted;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">IRCC receives the application and places it within the processing queue;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The application passes a completeness check;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Application begins processing; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The applicant receives an acknowledgment of receipt (AOR) letter\/email with your application number included.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The actual time needed to complete these steps can vary greatly depending on what type of application was submitted. However, once an AOR has been received newcomers can begin to check their application status.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What do the messages within the AST tool mean?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Within the overall application status section, applicants will see one of the three following statuses:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Received\u2014This means that the application has been received and is currently undergoing completeness checks;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In progress\u2014The application is still being reviewed; or<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Closed\u2014The application has either: been approved; been refused; or withdrawn\/cancelled by the applicant.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Within the application details section of the tool, newcomers can receive more in-depth information on each of the four sections (eligibility check, medical exam, background verification, and biometrics). Within these individual sections, applicants will find one of the following statuses:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not started;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Waiting on you\u2014indicating that IRCC has made a request for more information\/documents and is waiting for the applicant to comply;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In progress;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Completed; or<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Exempted\u2014meaning that the applicant does not need to complete this section of the application.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being up to date on the status of an application is often a primary consideration for newcomers who have applied to\u00a0Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada\u00a0(IRCC).
