{"id":5312,"date":"2024-10-24T13:57:49","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T10:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadaii.com\/?p=5312"},"modified":"2024-10-24T13:57:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T10:27:49","slug":"ircc-to-provide-financial-assistance-for-gazans-arriving-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadaii.com\/en\/ircc-to-provide-financial-assistance-for-gazans-arriving-in-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"IRCC to provide financial assistance for Gazans arriving in Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Palestinians who have left Gaza will soon receive transitional financial assistance from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) when they arrive in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The department says that this financial assistance will help Gazans to meet their basic needs upon arrival, such as food, shelter, and clothing, while they look for work. IRCC will release more details about the program \u201cwhen available.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cProviding settlement and financial support is critical to addressing the immediate challenges faced by Gazans finding safety in Canada,\u201d says Canada\u2019s immigration minister Marc Miller.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In addition to the financial supports, Gazans fleeing conflict in the region will benefit from:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">three months of temporary health coverage under the Interim Federal Health Program to help address urgent medical needs upon arrival; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/settle-in-canada-options.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">settlement services<\/a>\u00a0such as language training, information about and orientation to life in Canada (such as help enrolling children in school or opening a bank account), and information and services to help them find a job.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So far, 4,245 applications have been accepted into processing under IRCC\u2019s temporary resident pathway for Palestinian extended family in Gaza and 733 people have been approved to come to Canada. These individuals had\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-temporary-resident-visa-visitor.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Temporary Resident Visa<\/a>\u00a0applications in progress and were able to submit their\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/visiting-canada-biometrics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biometrics<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-visas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRCC<\/a>\u00a0says that movement out of Gaza is \u201cextremely challenging\u201d due to \u201cfactors outside of Canada\u2019s control\u201d and that it is working with local authorities to help extended family members of Canadians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As of October 5, 334 people have arrived in Canada through the temporary public policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Canada has also announced that it will provide $140 million in humanitarian assistance funding to help address urgent needs in the Gaza strip, the West Bank, Israel, and neighbouring areas. Funding will go to essentials such as food, water, and emergency medical assistance in these areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wider measures on humanitarian grounds<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">IRCC has instituted a number of measures for both Palestinian and Israeli citizens who have been impacted by the conflict in the Middle East.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"cicnewsads-f02ff75eeedef75e39d10d46ad4305d4\" class=\"cicnewsads-f02ff75eeedef75e39d10d46ad4305d4 cicnewsads-in-article-1\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<div id=\"cicnewsads-68437609\" class=\"cicnewsads-in-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For example, in January of this year\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2024\/01\/breaking-canadian-government-opens-new-temporary-resident-pathway-for-palestinians-in-gaza-with-family-in-canada-0142258.html#gs.g7yrfj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRCC instituted a new policy for Palestinians currently in the Gaza strip who are related* to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident<\/a>\u00a0that will support their transition to life in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">*For the purposes of this policy, related is defined as being the:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Spouse or common-law partner;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Children or grandchildren;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sibling; or<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Parents or Grandparents of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Successful applicants to this pathway have the opportunity to receive temporary resident status in Canada for up to three years, allowing them to potentially work (on an\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-open-work-permits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open work permit)<\/a>\u00a0and\/or study in the country during this time. Family members of applicants eligible for this pathway could also apply for a study or work permit when joining their family members in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Concurrently with the above policy IRCC has also streamlined processing of family-class applications for permanent residence (PR) for those with Palestinian family members impacted by the on-going conflict in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Palestinians who have left Gaza will soon receive transitional financial assistance from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) when they arrive in Canada.
